100 Days at Sea Bonfire — the Run's Real Progress Bar
The Bonfire is the structure everything else hangs off. Here's what it actually does, what happens if you let it die, and how far players get — counted from the game's official Roblox badges.
What the bonfire actually does
Two jobs, and they are easy to mix up. Levelling the Bonfire is the progression gate: every level unlocks more of the build menu, which is why the fire is a build target rather than scenery. Keeping it litis a separate matter from levelling it — an extinguished Bonfire is one of the Angler Fish's two triggers at any level, which is why the fire is the single structure you never neglect.
The tested early order on the day-by-day guide puts those unlocks in sequence. Wood and Metal drive every craft in the game, and both start as things floating past the raft. Anything you hook with the harpoon has two destinations: the crafting machine to build with, or straight into the Bonfire to raise its level. Feeding it is never wasted effort — it is the cheapest thing you own, because you feed it the junk you were already fishing out of the sea.
The documented unlocks are specific. Level 3 is the Sawmill (10 Wood + 2 Metal, three planks a cycle). Level 4 is the Magnet (30 Metal + 10 Wood) — effectively infinite metal for the rest of the run, the point where scarcity stops being the enemy and the nights become the whole game. At max Bonfire a Crafting building comes online that generates Pearls, at the cost of being the slowest and most resource-hungry Pearl method in the game.
How far players actually get
Roblox publishes an award count for every badge in a game, and 100 Days At Sea has a badge for each numbered Bonfire. We pulled the list on September 1, 2026. Every percentage below is that badge's awarded count divided by 90,280,294— the number of players who hold "Out At Sea", the badge for launching the game at all. Badges are once per player for life, not once per run, so this is how far people have ever got, not the odds of a single session.
| Badge | Awarded | Share of BASE | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bonfire 1 | 76,383,781 | 84.6% | Almost everyone who launches the game lights the fire before anything else. |
| Bonfire 2 | 74,264,999 | 82.3% | Effectively free — barely anyone who reaches 1 stops at 1. |
| Bonfire 3 | 51,543,553 | 57.1% | Unlocks the Sawmill. This is the first real filter in the game. |
| Bonfire 4 | 25,686,328 | 28.5% | Unlocks the Magnet (30 Metal + 10 Wood). About one in four players ever sees infinite metal. |
| Bonfire 5 | 10,382,973 | 11.5% | The steepest single step on the whole ladder — a run that has clearly gone well. |
| Bonfire 6 | 5,107,922 | 5.7% | Fewer players have reached Bonfire 6 than have survived to Day 30. |
| Bonfire 7 | 3,169,995 | 3.5% | Max level. The numbered ladder stops here. |
| Bonfire 8 | 257,409 | 0.3% | A feat, not a level: burn 1,500 items in a single session. |
| Bonfire 9 | 628,834 | 0.7% | A feat, not a level: reach max Bonfire with four or more people. |
Reading the funnel
Read the table as two different things stacked in one list. Bonfire 1 through 7 are the level ladder. Bonfire 8 and 9 sit outside it: burning 1,500 items in a single session (257,409 players, 0.3%) and reaching max level with four or more people (628,834 players, 0.7%). Bonfire 9 having more holders than Bonfire 8 is not a ladder going backwards — they are different feats. A third feat badge, Bonfire Master, is for hitting max Bonfire before Day 3, which 25,279 players have managed.
On the ladder itself, almost nobody stalls at the start: 84.6% reach level 1 and 82.3% reach level 2. The first genuine wall is level 3. That is the Sawmill gate, and it is where most beginners stop — 82.3% of all players have Bonfire 2, and only 57.1% have Bonfire 3. Nearly half of everyone who has ever set sail never unlocks the structure that turns wood into planks.
Level 4 is the next filter, and it is a steep one: 28.5% of all players, roughly half of those who cleared level 3. That share sits within half a point of the share who have ever reached Day 10 (28.1%). Badge counts alone cannot tell us whether one causes the other — but every guide that has actually played this game puts the fire ahead of everything else, and this is why. Level 5 is the steepest single step on the whole climb, down to 11.5%. From there the field thins to 5.7% at level 6 and 3.5% at the cap. Most players who light a fire never see the Magnet, let alone max level.
Treat refuelling as a standing chore, not a one-off. The Bonfire 8 badge — burn 1,500 items in a session — is a fair measure of how much the fire eats over a long run. What nobody has published is a minutes-per-item burn rate, so we are not going to invent one.
If the fire goes out
Pro Game Guides' tested beginner guide uses the word "only": the Angler Fish appears only at night, and only when you're off the raft or the fire is out. Both conditions are yours to control, which makes it the rare major threat you can switch off entirely rather than out-fight. Once it has locked on it never breaks chase, and no source we trust documents killing it. The revive page is blunt about the solo version of this: with nobody to pick you up, a knock-down effectively ends the run, so feeding the Bonfire before you need it is the prevention play.
If it is already chasing you, a Flare Gun redirects it — an escape, not a win. The biggest beginner mistake the rest of this site records is treating the Bonfire as decoration. Most early deaths trace back to an unfed fire.
FAQ
What does the bonfire do in 100 Days At Sea?
Two jobs at once. Levelling it is the progression gate that unlocks structures — the Sawmill at level 3, the Magnet at level 4, and a Crafting building at max level that generates Pearls. Keeping it lit is what keeps the Angler Fish away. Anything you harpoon can go into the crafting machine, or straight into the Bonfire to raise its level.
What happens if the bonfire goes out?
Pro Game Guides' tested guide is specific: the Angler Fish appears only at night, and only when you're off the raft or the fire is out. Once it locks on it never breaks chase. Keep the fire fed and stay on the raft after dark; if it's already on you, a Flare Gun redirects it. No trusted source documents killing it.
How many bonfire levels are there?
Seven. The official badge list has 'reach bonfire level' badges for 1 through 7 and no higher. Bonfire 8 and Bonfire 9 are feats rather than levels — burn 1,500 items in a session, and reach max level with four or more people — which is how we know 7 is the cap.
How many players reach Bonfire 5 in 100 Days At Sea?
10,382,973 players hold the Bonfire 5 badge — 11.5% of the 90,280,294 who hold Out At Sea. We read the official Roblox badge list on September 1, 2026.
How do I fuel the bonfire?
You feed it the junk you were already fishing out of the sea with the harpoon. Wood and Metal drive every craft, and anything you hook has two destinations: the crafting machine, or the Bonfire. The Bonfire 8 badge asks you to burn 1,500 items in a single session, which is a fair measure of how much the fire eats over a long run. No trusted source has published a burn rate or a minutes-per-log figure.
